Angie for Millcreek
Hello, neighbor!
My name is Angie Gray and I am running for Millcreek City Council, District 2. I’ve lived the majority of my life in Millcreek and nearly 15 years in District 2. I currently volunteer on 3 city committees. I’m a mom, wife, and nurse. Nobody loves Millcreek more than I do! I am committed to our strong schools, well-rounded growth, and retaining the city’s culture and character that we all love so much.
Priorites
Schools
Schools are the lifeblood of the community regardless of whether or not you have children in them. Schools spend our tax dollars, impact our property values, enhance the vitality of our neighborhood, shape micro cultures, and educate future voters. Strong schools benefit all of us, both in the short term and the long term.
With looming school closures, debate about a school district split, the related financial ramifications, and questions about land development of shuttered schools, we need a representative who knows schools well. Combined, my kids and I have attended ten Millcreek schools. I’ve been an instructor in public and private education. I have been on PTA Boards & School Community Councils, and I went through the closure of our local elementary school. I know schools! I am committed to stick with the evolving discussions and I am the representative you need.
Balanced development of housing
I love our idyllic neighborhoods of single-family homes and I also recognize that development of some high-density housing is necessary to accommodate current growth patterns. I am committed to finding the balance that will preserve our culture and make family-friendly living possible for everyone.
I was disheartened last year as a large, low-income apartment complex in Millcreek was suddenly converted to market rate housing, displacing vulnerable residents with very little notice. Low-income housing in our area currently faces the same threat as decades-old government contracts lapse. Furthermore, controversial development is happening right across the street, despite loud outrage from residents. We need a balanced plan & perspective.
District 2 is the area where our streets transition from houses to apartments & condos. As I’ve raised my family in our home over the last 15 years, I’ve wrestled with issues of our immediate infrastructure because the stakes are high to me personally. I am prepared to represent you with long-term experience in the area, a pulse on the community, and advocacy for the vulnerable among us.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure is critical and I plan to continue the enhancements our City Council is already doing. Besides aspects of everyday living, I would like to emphasize emergency preparedness. This includes physical infrastructure, such as storm drain improvements, but also communication systems and neighborhood preparedness. My time on the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is the part of the background we need for this.
Fiscal responsibility
Balanced budgets are a must. I applaud our current city council for keeping the budget balanced as well as having a rainy day reserve. I am committed to the same excellent standard.
